Document actions
Explore document actions—preview, mark as read, edit, and more. Learn how to handle documents with ease in this article.
Preview documents
Click on the name of the document to view it. All PDFs with Client can view and edit permission level open in our built-in viewer, where you can complete fillable forms, use annotations, change the orientation of the document, and more. Here’s more info on using our built-in PDF editor .
While viewing a document, you can also download it, move it to another folder, print, edit or delete it (some of these options are available only for documents with the Client can view and edit permission). Click the three-dots icon in the upper right corner to access these options in the pull-down menu.
Click the three dots in the upper right corner and select Show more info to see the document description or the reasons for document disapproval or voided signature (the button is not shown if there is none). Click X to the right or select Hide more info in the three-dot menu to close the additional info.
Click Back at the bottom to return to the list of documents.
Preview documents by using TaxDome’s built-in document viewer: tap the name of the document to see it, then tap the back arrow icon to return to your list of documents.
While viewing a document, you can download it, move the document to another folder, and edit or delete it (some options are available only for documents in folders without the eye icon). Long tap a file or a folder, or tap the three dots in the upper right corner to choose from the available options.

Preview does not support all file types. If a preview is unavailable, download the document and view it in an external application.Mark documents as read
In the All, Shared with me and Recent subtabs of the Docs section, all files that haven’t been viewed or downloaded yet and all folders containing such files are marked with a New tag. This tag is displayed until the file is either viewed or downloaded.
To remove this tag for any file(s), switch to the All tab, select the checkbox to the left of the documents you want to mark as read, then click Mark as read above the list. Or select a folder so that all the documents inside it get marked as read.
When you spot a folder with a red dot on its icon, it means that your accountant has added a new document you haven’t seen yet.
To remove the red dot, simply long-tap the folder and choose Mark as read after you’ve viewed the new document. Alternatively, you can access this option by tapping the three dots on the top right side of the screen while in the folder.
Print documents
To print PDF documents and images (JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, WEBP, etc.) from an account, click the three dots icon to the far right of the document’s name, then click Print. You can also access the Print link from the document viewer.
Download documents
To download your files, follow these steps:
- Select the files/folders you want to download, then click Download in the menu bar. You can also access the download link from the document viewer.

If prompted, choose where you would like to save the file, then click Save.

When the download finishes, you’ll usually see it appear at the bottom of your browser window. Click on the file’s name to open it. For more details on how to specify where files are downloaded, go here . If several files/folders were selected, the documents will be packed to a zip archive.
- Long-tap the name of the document in the list.
- Select Download.
You can also get to Download from the document viewer.
- Select the location where documents will be saved.
Delete and restore documents
When you delete a document from TaxDome, it is moved to Deleted. The file will stay there for 30 days, and then will be permanently deleted. Files that were deleted from a folder with Client can view and edit permission by your accountant are also available in Deleted for 120 days.
To delete a document:
- Select the checkbox next to the documents you want to remove, сlick the three-dot icon at the top right, and click Delete.
Another way to access Delete is from the document viewer.
- Or find Delete in the menu bar.
- Then click Delete in the Delete confirmation pop-up.
Warning
You won’t be able to delete files from folders with Client can view
permission level. Access all files that were deleted during the last 30 days by switching to the Deleted tab on the Docs page.

Files removed from different folders are displayed in one list. You can see a document’s location in the Path column.

You still can download files when they are in Deleted.

When you delete a folder, all files from a folder are placed in Deleted. Empty folders are deleted immediately.
To restore a document, click on the three-dots icon to the far right of the document’s name, then click Restore.
If a location for the restored file does not exist, it is automatically created.
To delete a document:

Long-tap the name of the document, then tap Delete.

Tap Yes, delete in the Are you sure? pop-up.
To access documents that were deleted in the last 120 days, go to the Trash subtab in your Documents section.
Note:
- Documents removed from different folders are displayed in one list.
- When you delete a folder, all documents in that folder are moved to Trash. Empty folders are immediately deleted.
To restore a document, long-tap it and select Restore.
You can also do it from preview. Open the document, then tap the three dots to the far right of the name of the document, then select Restore. If there isn’t a location selected for the restored document, one is created.
Edit documents
To edit file info, click on the three-dots icon on the right, then click Edit. You can change the file name and the description of the file here. Click Save to save your edits.
To edit a document, long-tap the document, then select Edit. You can change the name and description. Tap Save to keep your changes.
You can also do it from the preview. Tap the document, then tap the three dots to the far right of the document’s name, then select Edit.

You cannot edit documents uploaded by your accountant.Search documents
To search for a document, type its name in the search field, then press Enter.
The document list will be narrowed to your specifications.
To search for a document, tap the search icon in the Documents section, type a keyword in the search field, and then tap done. You’ll see a list of folders and files that contain the keyword. To clear the search, simply tap x to the right of the search field.
Filter documents
Filters are useful when looking for specific types of documents. For example, you want to quickly find all your PDF files. To filter your list of firm-prepared documents:

Click the Filter button, then select File type.

Click Apply.
Sort documents list
Sometimes, you might want to sort a document list rather than filter it. The sorting option can also be used with the search and filtering functions to narrow down your search even more. You can sort the list by folder and file name, who uploaded it, or by the date uploaded. Click the up-down arrow next to the Name, Uploaded or User column header to sort the list below it.
Bulk actions on documents
To manage several documents at once:

Select the checkboxes to the left of the files you want to manage.

Use the menu bar at the top of the list to apply a bulk action: Move, Download, Mark as read, or Delete.
To select and manage multiple files:

Tap and hold one document, then choose Select.

Select all the files you want to manage by checking the boxes to the left of the file names.

Tap the three-dot menu in the upper right corner, then choose an action: Move, Mark as read, Download, or Delete.
