Documents: Overview

The Documents section contains all of the files that have been prepared for you by your accountant(s) as well as any documents you’ve uploaded to your client portal. Discover how to browse through your documents and explore available options.

In the Documents section you can:

At the top, you’ll see the Drag & drop field for quick uploads. Below it, you’ll find the All, My uploads, Shared with me, Recent, and Deleted tabs that help you manage your documents.

All

The All tab shows all top-level folders created by your firm, each with different visibility/permission levels:

  • image Client can view and edit: documents that were uploaded to TaxDome by you or by your preparer. You can delete these or move them to different folders.

  • image Client can view: documents that are shared with you by your firm. You can see them, but you can’t delete or manage them.

The following information is available:

  • NAME: This is the document’s name and it has a file-type icon next to it.

  • CONTAINS: Shows the number of items inside.

  • UPLOADED: Shows when the document was uploaded. For files uploaded today, you’ll see the exact time. For earlier uploads, the format changes to date–month, and for files from previous years, date–month–year.

  • USER: The name of the person who uploaded the document.

  • STATUS: Color-coded labels that show the current stage of a document.

    • Pending payment: The document is locked and awaiting payment of the linked invoice.

    • Pending approval: The document is awaiting your approval.

    • Approved: The document has your approval.

    • Disapproved: The document was rejected by you.

    • Pending signature: The document is awaiting your e-signature.

    • Signed: All users of the account the document is for have signed it.

    • Partially signed: At least one user of the account the document is for have declined to sign it.

    • Declined signature: All users of the account the document is for have declined to sign it.

    • Sealed: The document is sealed by your accountant and cannot be deleted, edited, or moved.

    • Voided: The document can no longer be signed through the original request.

    • Opted out: You or another user have chosen not to participate in signing this document.

My uploads & Shared with me

In My uploads you’ll find documents that you personally uploaded to the portal. This helps you quickly locate your own files without sorting through documents uploaded by your firm or other contacts.

The Shared with me tab contains documents that were uploaded by your firm or by other contacts from your account. You can view these documents, but you cannot edit or delete them.

Recent

Here you will find the last 50 documents you’ve worked with.

Deleted

Documents you have deleted on TaxDome, go to Deleted subtab. The file stays there for 30 days until it’s permanently deleted. Files deleted from folders with Client can view and edit permission by your accountant stay in Deleted for 120 days.

To restore a document placed in Deleted, click on the three dots icon to the far right of the document’s name, then click Restore.

Any uploaded files are stored in the Documents section inside a folder with no icons. To get there from Home, tap the Documents button in the bottom navigation bar.

Here, you’ll find three tabs:

  • Recent: Contains documents uploaded by you or your accountant in reverse chronological order.

  • Folders: Displays folders created by you or your accountant along with files stored inside. If a file is in a folder with an eye icon, it means you can’t make changes to it.

  • Trash: Contains deleted files. The file stays there for 30 days until it is deleted permanently.

Once you have a new firm-prepared document:

  • A new notification appears in the Documents section under the Waiting for action tab when a document requires your attention. The red number on the right shows how many documents are waiting for your action.
  • A new document appears under the Recent tab in the Documents section.
  • A new document appears in the Home section under the Documents tab.
